Artifex Inc.
Privacy Policy
Effective date and last updated: September 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Artifex Inc. (“Artifex,” “The Artifex Works,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit theartifexworks.com and its subdomains, including chronogear.theartifexworks.com (the “Sites”), sign up for our emails, follow or back our crowdfunding campaigns, or otherwise contact us (together, the “Services”).
1. Who we are
Artifex Inc. is the company behind The Artifex Works brand and the Chrono Gear Dice Wheel. Artifex Inc. is responsible for the personal information described in this policy (the “controller” under EU and UK data protection law), except where we say otherwise in Section 8.

2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email address, when you join our pre-launch list or newsletter.
- Messages you send us, such as your name, email address, and what you write when you email us or message us on social media.
- Reward and delivery details, if you back one of our campaigns: for example your name, shipping address, phone number, reward choices, and any redemption code you enter in a backer survey (see Section 8).
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, links and buttons clicked, how far you scroll, the page that referred you, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the date and time of your visit.
- Campaign source data: marketing tags in the link you followed (such as UTM parameters), the referring website, and which sign-up form you used. While you browse, we keep campaign tags in your browser’s session storage so they are not lost.
- Abuse-prevention data: to stop automated abuse of our sign-up form, we limit how many requests can come from one IP address. For this purpose we store IP addresses only in hashed (one-way encoded) form.
- Email engagement data: whether our emails are opened and whether links in them are clicked, along with the device type used.
- Cookie and pixel data, described in Section 5.
Information from third parties
- Advertising platforms such as Meta and Reddit give us reports about how our ads perform. These reports are generally aggregated and do not identify you.
- Kickstarter gives campaign creators the backer information needed to deliver rewards (see Section 8).
We do not ask for, and ask that you do not send us, sensitive personal information (such as health or financial account information). Payments for Kickstarter pledges are handled by Kickstarter and its payment processors. We never receive your full payment card number.
3. How we use information
- To send you what you signed up for: launch announcements, campaign news, reminders (for example, when Early Bird pricing opens or ends), and occasional updates about our products.
- To deliver subscriber perks, such as the redemption code for the free pin we offer people who join our list before a campaign launches.
- To deliver rewards and support backers, including producing and shipping rewards and answering questions.
- To measure and improve our Sites, emails, and advertising: for example, learning which ads lead to sign-ups, showing our ads to people who have visited our Sites, and reaching people with similar interests.
- To keep the Services secure and working: preventing spam, fraud, and abuse, and checking that an email address’s domain exists so typos don’t end up on our list.
- To meet legal obligations and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
4. Legal bases (EEA, UK & Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent: for marketing emails, and for cookies and pixels where consent is required. You can withdraw consent at any time, and this does not affect processing that happened before you withdrew.
- Contract: to deliver rewards you have backed and to send related service messages.
- Legitimate interests: to secure our Sites, prevent abuse, understand how our Sites are used, respond to your messages, and improve our products. We balance these interests against your rights.
- Legal obligation: to keep tax and accounting records and to respond to lawful requests.
5. Cookies, pixels & similar tools
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. Pixels (also called tags) are small pieces of code that send information to a provider when a page loads or an action happens, such as a sign-up. We use the following:
| Tool | Provider | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Pixel & Conversions API | Meta Platforms, Inc. | Measures actions such as page views and sign-ups, builds advertising audiences, and helps Meta deliver our ads. Besides the pixel in your browser, our server may send Meta event details together with identifiers such as Meta’s browser and click IDs (the _fbp and _fbc cookies), your browser’s user agent, your IP address, and a hashed version of your email address. |
| Reddit Pixel | Reddit, Inc. | Measures page views and sign-ups from Reddit ads and builds advertising audiences. |
| Google Tag Manager | Google LLC | Loads and manages the tags above. Google receives technical information, such as your IP address, when the tool loads. |
| YouTube video embed | Google LLC | Plays our product video. YouTube may set cookies and collect viewing information when the video loads or plays. |
| Session storage | Artifex (first party) | Remembers campaign tags and whether you have already signed up during your visit. Cleared when you close the tab. |
Your choices
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work as intended.
- Adjust ad settings with each platform: Meta, Reddit, Google.
- Use industry opt-out tools, such as the Digital Advertising Alliance (US) and Your Online Choices (EU).
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as described below.
| Who | Why |
|---|---|
| Hostinger | Website hosting, and email list management and sending (Hostinger Reach) |
| Alibaba Cloud | Business email, used when you write to us |
| Tag management and video embeds | |
| Meta and Reddit | Advertising, audience building, and ad measurement |
| Kickstarter | Hosting our crowdfunding campaigns (see Section 8) |
| Manufacturing and fulfillment partners | Producing and shipping rewards, including HYMGHO, our manufacturing partner, and shipping carriers |
| Survey and pledge management tools | Collecting reward choices, shipping details, and redemption codes after a campaign |
Service providers may use your information only to provide services to us. Advertising platforms such as Meta and Reddit may also use information they receive through their tools for their own purposes, under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose information: (a) if required by law or to respond to lawful requests; (b) to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users, us, or others; (c) as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information; and (d) with your consent.
Under some US state laws, using advertising pixels to show you ads based on your activity across websites may count as “sharing” personal information or “targeted advertising.” You can opt out as described in Section 11.
7. Our emails
- We only send marketing emails to people who signed up for them. We may send a confirmation email to verify your address.
- Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. After you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a suppression list so that we don’t email you again.
- If you back one of our campaigns, we may still send you service messages about your reward after you unsubscribe from marketing emails.
- Our emails contain small tracking images and tracked links that tell us whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. You can limit this by turning off automatic image loading in your email app.
- Subscriber pin: people who join our list before a campaign launches receive a redemption code by email for a free pin (design chosen at random). The pin is only available with a campaign pledge. You enter the code in the backer survey after the campaign ends, and the pin ships with your reward.
8. Kickstarter campaigns & rewards
Our campaigns are hosted on Kickstarter. When you follow or back a project, Kickstarter collects and uses your information under its own Privacy Policy. Kickstarter shares with the project creator the information needed to deliver rewards, such as your name, email address, shipping address, and survey answers.
The Chrono Gear campaign is published through a Kickstarter creator account operated by HYMGHO, our manufacturing partner. Backer information made available through that account is used by HYMGHO and Artifex Inc. only to produce, ship, and support your rewards, and to communicate with you about the campaign.
We have added a Meta Pixel to our Kickstarter project page, a feature Kickstarter offers to creators, so that we can measure how people who saw our ads interact with the project (for example, by following it).
9. International transfers
Artifex Inc. is based in the United States. Our service providers and manufacturing and fulfillment partners are located in several countries, including member states of the European Union, Hong Kong, and mainland China. As a result, your information may be processed outside the country where you live. Where the law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK equivalents.
10. How long we keep information
- Email list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information. A minimal suppression record is kept so that we can honor your opt-out.
- Sign-up records (campaign source, form used, hashed IP): up to 24 months after collection.
- Backer and fulfillment records: for as long as needed to deliver rewards and provide support, and afterward as required for tax and accounting purposes (generally up to 7 years).
- Correspondence: up to 3 years after our last exchange, unless we need it longer to resolve an issue.
- Information collected by advertising and analytics providers: retained according to those providers’ own policies.
11. Your rights & choices
Everyone
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in any email.
- Ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information by emailing privacy@theartifexworks.com.
EEA, UK & Switzerland
You have the right to access, correct, or erase your personal information; to restrict or object to its processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. You have an absolute right to object to direct marketing. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
US residents
Depending on the state where you live (for example, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and others), you may have the right to:
- know about and access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete your information;
- receive a portable copy of your information;
- opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information and of targeted advertising; and
- not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To opt out of targeted advertising, email us with the subject line “Opt out.” We will stop using your email address to match you with advertising audiences. Because pixel data is tied to your browser, please also use the cookie and ad-setting controls in Section 5.
How to make a request
Email privacy@theartifexworks.com from the address you used with us, and tell us what you would like us to do. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with proof of authorization. We will respond within the time the law requires: generally one month in the EEA and UK, and 45 days in the US. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state Attorney General.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information. These include encrypted (HTTPS) connections, limited access to our systems, and storing IP addresses used for abuse prevention only in hashed form. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Children
Our Services are not directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
14. Third-party sites & platforms
Our Sites and emails link to third-party services such as Kickstarter, Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube. Those services have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not cover them. Please review their privacy policies.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date above. If the changes are material, we will provide additional notice, such as a notice on our Sites or an email.
16. Contact us
